Overview

When the body of a local man, Neil Goodwin, is found brutally beaten to death in a disused quarry, Cooper and Fry travel to Withens, a small village in a fight for survival against a water company with plans to buy, demolish and rebuild. As Fry begins to connect the case to the disappearance of Emma Runshaw from five years ago, she and Ben are pursued at every turn by ‘The Border Rats' a mysterious group shrouded in secrecy. Led by the formidable Lucas Oxley, they're sworn to protect Withens and ready for war.As the strange behaviour of Emma's parents, Howard and Sarah, raise suspicions for Fry, the detectives learn that Neil was involved in profiting from stolen goods. But as Cooper and Fry get closer to the truth, the discovery of a body illegally buried in the local church graveyard, brings forth secrets once laid to rest long ago. To find the truth, Cooper and Fry will have to face the past and the present.
