Tells the story of the Scott family. Strict, chapel going father Thomas runs a family drapery business in Manchester. Daughter Annie has her dreams of Paris. Son Leonard wants to study for the Civil Service. Both can achieve their aims only if father sells his shop on a valuable corner site. When Scott gets an offer for the business it comes from the brash Wickstead who wants to turn it into a dance hall.
